About Sputnik 2

Launched November 3, 1957, just a month after Sputnik 1. Carried the dog Laika, the first animal to orbit Earth. Laika died within hours from overheating, a fact not officially revealed for decades. The capsule had no means of return. Reentered the atmosphere in April 1958.
