The Russian global navigation satellite system. The first satellites launched in 1982 under the Soviet Union. Reached full coverage in the 1990s, then declined, and was restored in 2011. Works alongside GPS in most modern smartphones. Satellites orbit in three planes at around 19,100 km altitude.
